Waste to Wellness

What if the things we discard could become tools for healing? At ACC's Art Therapy pillar, we're exploring exactly that possibility.

The Practice of Transformation

In our waste-to-wellness workshops, participants work with everyday materials that would otherwise end up in landfills—plastic containers, fabric scraps, paper waste, and more. Guided by skilled facilitators, they transform these materials into art that expresses something meaningful: hope, grief, joy, or connection.

This process does more than divert waste. It creates a new relationship with material objects, inviting us to see potential where we once saw only disposal. It asks us to consider: what might be possible if we approached all of our consumption with this same creative attention?

Beyond the Workshop

The insights gained in our workshops extend far beyond the creative space. Participants often report:

  • Greater mindfulness about their consumption habits
  • Increased awareness of waste streams in their communities
  • New appreciation for the creative potential in "ordinary" objects
  • Reduced feelings of helplessness about environmental issues
